An Impartial Witness by Charles Todd
This is the second Bess Crawford mystery. A Duty to the Dead was the first. I really enjoy reading these mysteries by Charles Todd, a mother/son team.
The Story: Bess Crawford had accompianed several soldiers to a hospital in England. One of the soldiers, Lt. Evanson, she took care of in France. She is at the train station in London, she sees the Lt.'s wife. It is obvious the woman is upset. Bess wonders who is the man Mrs. Evanson is with. Bess goes back to France and the war. A few weeks later, she sees a newspaper article asking for information about a murdered woman, Mrs Evanson. Of course Bess must investigate and find out what is going on. Eventually, she figures it all out!
