Roverandom by J.R.R. Tolkien

I chose this book to fulfill a requirement for the Back To the Classics Challenge 2013.  The category is:

A Classic that prominently features an Animal - This can feature animal characters or animals in the title (real or imagined).

I wish I would have found this book when the girls were little. It is a delightful story about a dog named Rover that meets a wizard.  Rover is rude to the grouchy wizard.  The wizard turns him into a toy.  Rover's adventure begins.  He gets to the beach, the moon and a trip under the sea. Children will love this book.

Tolkien's son, Michael, lost his toy and he told him this story to make him feel better.   It is only one of his children's books.  Others are Oliphaunt and Mr. Bliss. Tolkien had four children and loved them dearly.
