WRC January 2017 Read-a-Thon

January read-a-thon time is here! Set your own goal: number of books to finish, number of pages to read, time listening to an audio-book or a certain challenge or two to complete. Whatever works best for you, set your goal and log your progress. If you prefer, you may just log what you read during the read-a-thon.

During this read-a-thon be on the look out for:
(1) Books between 217-310 pages.
(2) Books published in January.
(3) Books with trees on the cover.

January’s Mini Challenge!

I thought it would be fun to base this year's mini-challenges around wacky national days.

This is a combination spell/task challenge. You may choose to do the task, the spell out option, or a combination of both.

Challenge Rules:
The page limit requirement is 125 pages; however, participants are welcome to combine smaller books to reach the page limit. All books and formats are allowed (children's, manga, graphic novels, audiobooks, etc). Re-reads are fine - just be sure to re-read the entire book. When posting updates for your challenge, please include the following information: a link to the book title, the author's name, and the date you finished reading the book.


1.January 2nd is National Science Fiction Day and January 6th is National Cuddle Up Day. This makes it a perfect time to cuddle up a read some books.

• Read a book that is tagged Science Fiction on its GR home page OR Read a book where the author’s first AND last initials can be found in ‘CUDDLE UP.’

2.January 9th is National Clean Off Your Desk Day and the 11th National Step in the Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day. It is time to clear of a book on your TBR shelf and have some fun.

• Read a book that has been on your TBR shelf for more than a year OR Read a book where friendship is an important part of the storyline.

3.January 15th is National Hat Day and National Strawberry Ice Cream Day. January 15th is a popular day.

4.January 24th is National Compliment Day and January 26th is National Green Juice Day. It is always nice receiving and giving compliments and green juice fits in with getting healthy after all the holiday sweets.

January Scattergories

The general rules of Scattergories are you are given a list of categories and a time limit. Then the letter dice is rolled and you have to come up with something that matches your letter and the category.

This “Challenge” works in conjunction with the other challenges you may participate in this month. You may use a book to fulfill multiple items (you don't have to read 12 books this month...don't worry!) While you are fulfilling the requirements of your other challenges, be on the lookout for the following items (they may be on the cover or mentioned in the book):
