May 2017 Mini Challenge!

I thought it would be fun to base this year's mini-challenges around wacky national days.

This is a combination spell/task challenge. You may choose to do the task, the spell out option, or a combination of both.

Challenge Rules:
The page limit requirement is 125 pages; however, participants are welcome to combine smaller books to reach the page limit. All books and formats are allowed (children's, manga, graphic novels, audiobooks, etc). Re-reads are fine - just be sure to re-read the entire book.

Challenge Updates:
When posting updates for your challenge, please include the following information: a link to the title, the author's name, and the date you finished reading the book. If you want to share an update to your challenge, please copy and paste your update into a new message letting us know it is an update.

Completed Challenges:
When you have completed this challenge, please copy and paste your entire challenge and repost in a new message, letting us know it is completed.

We prefer that you do not post links or generic messages regarding updates or completed challenges.


May 3rd is National Paranormal Day a fun day to celebrate the paranormal for both believers and non-believers. May 5th is National Cartoonist Day. This day recognizes humor and artwork from all cartoonist. 

• Read a book that is tagged “paranormal” or “humor” on GR homepage OR Read a book with illustrations.

May 13th is National Frog Jumping Day and it is all about measuring how far a frog can jump. It is time to jump back into a series you have not finished. May 7th is National Packaging Design Day a well-designed packaging can sell a product.

• Read the next book in a series you have not finished OR Read a book you picked based on the cover.

May 17th is National Pack Rat Day, it is a day to look at what you have and get rid of unneeded items. May 23rd is National Lucky Penny Day; a penny use to buy something but not so much anymore. In 1793, first US penny mint was made of copper.

• Read a book that has been on your TBR shelf for over 2 years OR Read a book with 7, 9, or 3 found in the publication year (you can use either the first published year or the year of the edition you are reading).

May 25th is National Brown-Bag-It-Day. Taking your lunch to work can be a cheaper and healthier option. May 30th is National Hole in My Bucket Day and it is to celebrate the children’s song There’s a Hole in My Bucket

• Read a book with a type of food in the title or on the cover OR Read a book where the title starts with the letter “T”, “H”, “M” or “B”.

Using the first letter of a book title or the first letter of the authors first or last name, spell out a April item. A list of April items is provided below. You may choose from the list, or use a word of your own that represents April to you.
