Tasty Treat #3 - M&M's
Duration: 4 Months from Start

Welcome to our third Tasty Treat Challenge! Who can resist them - not me!!

You do not need to have completed the other Tasty Treat challenges to participate. Each challenge in the series is a separate challenge and you can do one or all of them in any order. 


Challenge Rules: We will observe the 125 page limit unless otherwise noted. You may combine books to reach the page limit but BOTH books must meet the requirement and be from the appropriate lists. All formats are acceptable. Re-reads are fine as long you read the entire book. 

Completed Challenges: When you have completed the challenge, please copy and paste your entire challenge and repost in a new message, letting us know it is completed. We prefer that you do not post links or generic messages regarding updates or completed challenges. 



1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! M&M’s recently had a birthday! We have been enjoying this wonderful Tasty Treat for 75 years! They were introduced in the United States in 1941 and can now be found in over 100 countries. 
Read a book that has the number 75 intact in the TBR # or # of pages listed (75, 175, 750 etc.) OR read a book #5 or #7 of a series.

2. M&M: These colorful button-shaped chocolates are produced by Mars, Inc. Their name and the “M” printed on the candy shell represents their two founders: Mars and Murrie. 
Read a book whose title begins OR ends with the letter M (disregard A, An or The).

3. RATIONS: M&M’s were originally packaged in cardboard tubes and were sold exclusively to the US military as part of their rations during WW2. Soldiers enjoyed the tasty treats so much they were soon made available to everyone.

4. PLAIN OR PEANUT DEBATE: Peanut M&M’s were introduced in 1954 starting the age old controversy “which is better - Plain or Peanut?”

5. SLOGAN: In the same year, M&M’s introduced their famous slogan:"Melts in your mouth, not in your hand". It has made advertising history by being one of the most recognizable and well-loved slogans ever:

6. DISAPPEARING COLOR: In the late 70’s red M&M’s disappeared for a decade during the Red Dye #2 scare. Mars stopped production to avoid controversy even though they were not using the dye in their product. In response to a campaign to bring them back, M&M’s reintroduced the red M&M’s in 1987.

7. FEELING AMOROUS? Green M&M’s are rumored to be an aphrodisiac.The company played along by starting a campaign called "What is it about the green ones?”
Read a book marked Romance on its GR Home Page OR read a book with a “sexy” scene in it.

8. SPONSORSHIP: In 1990, M & M's became the official sponsor and candy for Nascar Racing.

9. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE: There are 10 different M&M products listed on the Mars website that include peanut butter, crispy, pretzel candies and even a M&M Candy BAR. Throughout the year you can purchase M&M’s in seasonal and holiday themed colors and even get them printed with personalized sayings.
