Debbie messaged me this morning to ask for a tribute to Anthony Bourdain. I would have thought of it but I am still stunned by his death. I first became aware of Bourdain during his first TV show, A Cook's Tour. I have loved him ever since.

Anthony Michael Bourdain (June 25, 1956 – June 8, 2018) was an American celebrity chef, author, and television personality. He was noted by popular sources as one of the most influential chefs in the world.

Tony was born June 25, 1956 in New York City and grew up in Leonia, New Jersey. His paternal grandparents emigrated from France during WW1. He has a younger brother, Charles.

The family spent their summers in France. Tony said that his love of food was aroused in his youth while on a family vacation in France, when he tried his first oyster on an oyster fisherman's boat.

Bourdain attended The Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 1978. From there he went on to run various restaurant kitchens in New York City. In 1998, Bourdain became executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles, based in Manhattan.

Tony had 4 TV shows of his own where he traveled the world and sampled the foods of the destinations. He was also a judge on many food competition shows.

Tony was considered "the original rock star" of the culinary world" and a culinary bad boy. He was extremely opinionated, especially about other cooks and chefs. He loved music and interview many musicians on his shows.
He was married twice and was the father of a daughter. He was found dead of an apparent suicide by his friend Éric Ripert on June 8, 2018, in his hotel room in Kaysersberg-Vignoble, France.
