Far Harbor by JoAnn Ross

Coldwater Cove #2
Savannah walked in on her husband of ten years with another woman.  It shattered her. She moved back home to Washington and bought a lighthouse to be a B&B. She's happy to be back with her growing family. Along the way, she finds love again with the help of a ghost that haunts the lighthouse.
I really liked this story.

From goodreads:
"One of the best storytellers the genre has produced" (, JoAnn Ross creates characters so vibrant and funny they're irresistible. Now she triumphs again with a remarkably intimate tale that illuminates the ardent emotions of a woman coming to terms with her life -- and with her heart. After her seemingly idyllic marriage turns out to be a pretty illusion, Savannah Townsend returns to her hometown of Coldwater Cove, Washington. Determined to live life on her own terms, she takes on the task of restoring the local Far Harbor lighthouse and making it the cozy inn she had always dreamed of. But she hasn't anticipated opposition from the lighthouse's owner, her grandmother's disturbing memory losses, or the problems of an emotionally wounded teenage girl. Most of all, she hasn't planned on having feelings for Daniel O'Halloran, a caring and passionate man from her past.

As affection moves to attraction and then to something far deeper, Savannah learns that in life nothing worth having comes easily. She also discovers that some dreams really are forever.

A novel of uncommon grace and power, "Far Harbor" is at once a poignant love story and an emotion-packed account of one woman's journey home.

Hot Date by Amy Garvey

This was a cute story about Grace who seemed to whirl through life, often not thinking things all the way through before acting on her impulses. Her husband got a job transfer to Chicago and she realized that she did not really love him and asked for a divorce. Then went back to her hometown in Pennsylvania where she inspired others to be brave in their lives and then fell in love with her brother's best friend.

Grace was a fun character to read about. She was klutzy, sassy and unpredictable. Nick went around fixing and helping everyone but he did not realize that Grace did not need fixing.  She really needed acceptance and love.

From the publisher:
Needed: One Hot Man…

Soon-to-be-ex-husband in the rearview mirror. Hometown, straight ahead. Grace Lamb at the wheel, beginning a whole new life in an about-to-drop-dead old VW bus. She plans to start a gardening business in the charming hamlet of Wrightsville, PA, and put her green thumb to good use. Hey, why not? Flowers, ferns, even plain old grass like her…they really like her. What could go wrong? Everything, once the bus breaks down and a local cop pulls over to help. One look through the windshield and Grace is feeling lucky again. The man in blue is none other than Nick Griffin, her former childhood crush, all grown up and looking incredibly handsome and sexy. Yes, officer, there is a problem…

…Who’s Ready For Romance

At last. Something to do. Wrightsville isn't the most exciting beat, despite nabbing the hardened criminal who stole the library's Harry Potter collection. Nick Griffin can’t take his eyes off the drop-dead gorgeous redhead with the broken-down VW bus. Grace's looks may have changed for the better (way better) since she was a kid following Nick and her big brother around, but he’s about to find out that she still gets into the strangest scrapes. And from messing with the mob over a bunch of vintage sex toys (don't ask) to making Nick forget he has a brain when she happens to touch him, Grace still drives him crazy. Except now he's falling crazy in love…

Love After All by Jaci Burton

Hope #4

Chelsea wants a man - the perfect man. So she makes a list. Bash is interested in Chelsea but he is gun shy because he had a failed marriage. He finds out about Chelsea's list and decides to help her find a man. BUT they have amazing chemistry. He wants her and lets her know. After a while, she gives in. Will Bash be her perfect man?

I really liked this story.

From the author:
A woman discovers that the man she least expects is exactly what she needs...
High school math teacher Chelsea Gardner has the perfect plan. She’s tired of dating all the wrong men, and after years of frustration, she’s developed a foolproof list of requirements for finding “The One.”
Bar owner Sebastian “Bash” Palmer finds Chelsea beautiful, smart and fun, but he thinks her list is ridiculous and unnecessary.  Intent on proving Chelsea is looking for love in all the wrong ways, he offers to help her find the “perfect” man.
Chelsea knows Bash isn’t the right guy for her—he barely meets one of her criteria—but there’s something about the charismatic man that has her yearning for things that are most definitely not list approved.
Because sometimes, a relationship that looks totally wrong on paper can turn out incredibly right…

Chapter One

Chelsea Gardner sat at the No Hope At All bar, waiting for her friends.
While she waited, she got out her notebook and doodled.
Okay, maybe she wasn’t doodling. She was on a mission.
The ten-point list made perfect sense to her. She’d fine-tuned it, but really, she’d had this list in her head for a while now, and decided it was time to memorialize it, get it down on paper. Maybe even laminate it.
Chelsea was thirty-two years old, and the one thing she knew and knew well was men. She had years of dating history, and she could weed out a decent man from a loser in the first fifteen minutes of a date.
She should write a book about it. She’d probably make millions.
Okay, in reality, maybe not. But she had a lot of experience in dating. She could offer up some valuable advice. At least advice on how to date the wrong man. Had she ever dated a lot of the wrong men. She was an expert on that.
Hence the list.
Her list would ensure she found the right man—finally. She was tired of going out on useless dates. From now on, she was going to ask the correct questions so she wouldn’t waste any more time on the wrong man. If a prospective date didn’t meet the criteria on her list, then he wasn’t the perfect man for her.
Her list wasn’t going to focus on personality traits—she already knew in her head the type of guy she wanted—warm, caring, compassionate, with a sense of humor. If he didn’t possess those basics, he’d be out of the running before they even got started. And those she could suss out right away without a list. Nor did she have a preference for looks. No, this list was compatibility-based. That’s where she’d run into roadblocks in the past and where she was going to focus her efforts on in the future.
She scanned her list, nodding as she ticked off the attributes in her head.
  1. Never married. Guys with exes carry a lot of baggage and woes.
  2. Has to be a suit and tie kind of guy, because it means he cares about his appearance.
  3. Has to work a 9-to-5 job, so he’ll be available for her.
  4. No crazy ex-girlfriends. This one needs no explanation.
  5. Likes fine dining and good wine. No more burger joints! Some guy out there must like something other than hamburgers, right?
  6. Hates sports. Everything about sports. What is it with men and sports, anyway?
  7. Must want at least two kids. A man who doesn’t want children is a deal breaker.
  8. Must love animals—preferably big dogs, not those yippy little dogs.
  9. Doesn’t spend all his time at the bar with his friends. If he’s always hanging out at the bar with his friends, then he isn’t with her.
  10. Idea of a perfect vacation getaway is somewhere warm and tropical. With room service.
She studied the list, tapping the pencil on the bar top.
“You look deep in thought.”
Her head shot up as Sebastian “Bash” Palmer, the owner of the bar, stood in front of her.
Talk about the wrong guy. Bash was the epitome of wrong, on so many levels.

Silver Thaw by Catherine Anderson

Mystic Creek #1
Amanda and her little girl Chloe are living in a rundown house in Oregon. They are on the run from Amanda's abusive husband. Amanda is so lonely and starts writing her wishes on little pink slips of paper that releases into the wind. The neighbors have them over the past few months and are concerned for her but they don't know who is writing them. Jeb is a lonely single guy that is determined to look for her.
Winter is coming and with it a bad ice storm. Jeb and the other men are going to the neighbors to see if they need help. He stumbles onto the house where Amanda and Chloe are slowly freezing to death. He convinces her to come and stay with him and this begins their romance.

I really loved this story. The beginning made me cry. Amanda's wishes were so sad. Wishing for love or money to buy snow boots for her daughter or just someone to talk to. Jeb really felt for her berfore he met her. After they met, he fell pretty quickly!

From the author:
After years of living in fear of her husband, Amanda Banning has left him and moved to Mystic Creek, Oregon, for a fresh start. But she’s having a tough time providing for herself and her six-year-old daughter. Writing her secret yearnings on slips of paper and sending them into the wind helps her cling to the hope that things will get better…and that she can find happiness again.

Jeb Sterling has no idea that the handwritten messages he finds scattered across his land are the first hints that his life is about to change. Nor does he understand why he feels so compelled to help Amanda Banning and her daughter when a cold snap leaves them temporarily homeless. Maybe he’s inspired by Amanda’s courage or perhaps by her beautiful brown eyes. Either way, the man who once renounced love suddenly finds himself willing to do anything for the pair. Amanda seems to have given up on her dreams, but Jeb refuses to quit until he makes her every wish come true.…

He wants to know everything about her and she tells him vague things. She never lies but he doesn't believe her truths.  What will happen when he finds out her biggest secret?

I loved this book and read it in a few hours. I loved Cat and Maxim!! She is so sassy. I loved how she didn't act the way he expected. But I wanted to smack him in the head when he treated her badly for being an escort.

From the author:

Rich, irresistible politician/Mafiya boss Maksimilian Sevastyan prefers tall, obedient blondes to fulfill his…complicated desires. That is, until the icy Russian encounters a disobedient brunette whose exquisite little body threatens his legendary restraint.

Catarina Marín was a well-off young wife until her world fell apart. Now she’s hiding out, forced to start working as an escort in Miami. Her very first client is beyond gorgeous, but when he tells her what he plans to do to her, Cat almost walks out of the door.

After their mind-blowing encounter burns out of control, the lovers crave more. If they escape the deadly threats surrounding them, can Maksim overcome his past–to offer Cat his future? Only then will she tempt him with what he really wants: her, all tied up with a bow.

Mi madre must be turning over in her grave right now.

As I rode the elevator to the penthouse of the ritzy Seltane Hotel—it’d taken two staffers to key me up to the fortieth floor— I chewed on a fingernail.

Was I really about to let some strange man have sex with me? For money? The elevator arrived too quickly, forcing me onto a private landing with its own lobby and an elegant sitting area. An open newspaper lay on a coffee table, as if someone had recently left.

The entry—a pair of ornate mahogany doors—was just beyond, looming. Could I bring myself to ring the bell?

Apparently, this penthouse was one of the largest (more than ten thousand square feet) and the most expensive (thirty-two grand—a night) in Miami. Who in their right mind would spend that much money on a hotel? Clearly my first client was loco.

Other than that, I didn’t know much about him. He was a Russian businessman, here in Miami for a week. He’d been not only vetted but vouched for by sister escort agencies all over the world. In other words, he was a hobbyist, a routine user of escorts.

Tempted to bolt, I pulled out my phone to call my hookup, Ivanna. She was a Ukrainian immigrant and high-class escort, making bank; I was her cleaning lady. She thought my current employment was a waste of my “spectacular figure and fresh-faced beauty.” Yeah, yeah.

When she answered, I said, “I don’t think I can do this.” I began to pace the lobby, my stilettos silent on the plush beige rug.

“Of course you can. You don’t understand how badly I wish I could be there. If this man is renting the penthouse for a week, imagine how rich he is!”

The Russian had booked Ivanna, but she’d had a reaction to Botox (she was only thirty!). She’d thought she’d be okay by tonight, so she hadn’t called to cancel. A big no-no for escorts.

“If my eyes weren’t swollen shut . . .”

“Ivanna, I’m not at this point yet.” I’d been vacillating like crazy. Though I’d prepared to take a couple of dates—getting an exam and a waxing—I’d always suspected I’d balk. “I’m not here,” I insisted. But wasn’t I? Yesterday I could’ve sworn I’d seen Edward.

In Miami. I’d been riding the bus home from a cleaning gig when I’d seen a tall, lanky blond stepping out of a bodega, striding toward a Porsche. The last time I’d seen him had been in the glare of headlights, his green eyes stark against his blood-coated face.

If he was here, then I needed to flee to a new city as soon as possible.

Nauti Nights by Lora Leigh

Nauti #2
Crista has gotten herself in the middle of a gun battle in a warehouse where she went to get a box that had been delivered to the wrong place. Just then she gets rescued by Dawg, who spent a night with her years ago. He was drunk because his parents had just died. He did not remember the night but she did.  He took her virginity. Crista could no longer stay in Somerset after that, so her brother moved her to Virginia.
Dawg knows that Crista is not involved in the mess in the warehouse.  He needs to protect her and settle the dreams that he's had of her for eight years. He decides to blackmail her into living with him until he solves the mystery of just what is going on. Will Crista agree to live with Dawg and be his lover until the end of summer or will he take her jail?

I liked this story.

From the author:
James “Dawg” Mackey has lusted after sweet Crista Jansen for years. Just as many as she’s spent running from him—and from that dangerous attraction that shot like a spark through her whole body. But now for Crista, running isn’t an option anymore because Dawg’s got a plan. It’s kind of low-down. And kind of hot.

Blackmail is a dirty word, but Dawg will use it if that’s what it takes to get Crista where he wants her. His hungers are too hard and fierce not to. He doesn’t realize that Crista has a longing too. She’s knows what he’s up to, what he’s capable of. He didn’t get that nickname for nothing. And before the night is through, Crista’s making him work for it.

**This is an unedited excerpt**

It was nightmare.

No, it wasn’t a nightmare because she was pretty damned sure she was awake. And in nightmares, bullets weren’t real. They weren’t real and they weren’t exploding around the warehouse like hellish fireflies destroying everything they lodged inside.

Nightmares came with a certain understanding that it was a dream. Not Real. This was a certain understanding it was definitely real and if something really good didn’t happen really soon then she was going to have holes in her body that were not supposed to be there.

She fought to hold back her screams as bullets whizzed over her head again, popping in the wood crates around her and sending a shower of wood chips and shattered glass from inside around her head.

This was bad. Very bad. She stared around, wide eyed and dazed as she scrambled around more boxes, more crates, fighting for as much protection between her and the bullets as she could find.

Crista Jensen was certain her horoscope hadn’t said anything about bullets today. Something about dark knights and ill-advised trips, but there had been nothing in there about bullets.

She would have remembered.

She would have changed her plans.

Oh boy would she have changed her plans.

Scuttling behind what she hoped was a very thickly packed crate, she covered her head with her arms as glass sprayed around her.

Those weren’t just regular bullets. Those were fast bullets. Automatic? Uzi? Something. The kind that spit fire as they pelleted out dozens of rounds at a time. And she knew because the red flashes of light in the otherwise dark interior of the warehouse were a pretty good clue, she screamed silently to herself.

A terrified squak, a cross between a squeak and a squawk fell from her lips as chips of wood exploded from the sides of the crate she found to hide behind.

They were serious out there. People were killing people and she was caught in the crossfire and wondering how the hell she was going to get out of this one.

She knew this was a bad idea.

She knew. She had felt that sick feeling in her gut the minute she stepped into the cavernous warehouse and realized the lights didn’t work. But had she, dumbass that she was, backed out and left? Oh hell now, she had just pulled her penlight from her back and trudged merrily on her way looking for that stupid box. She told the delivery company to deliver to her home, not here. Yet when she returned home from work what had she found? An official notice that her package had been dropped off at their local distribution warehouse and why, lookie, there had been the magical key to open the damned locker it was in.

Well guess what? There was no locker here, she told herself sarcastically. No locker, but plenty of bullets singing a macabre tune through the darkness.

So now, rather than collecting her belongings she was just trying to stay alive. When did fate decided to bust Crista Jensen’s ass? For God’s sake, hadn’t she had enough bad luck in the past eight years?

Nauti Boy by Lora Leigh

Nauti #1

Kelly has loved Rowdy since he protected her from a bully when she was a little girl. But when her mother married his father and Kelly started to mature it was too much for Rowdy. He wanted her so much. So he went away to college, but that was too close. Then he joined the Marines and was away for four years. Kelly is 24 now and old enough. But when he got home he realized something bad had happened to Kelly. She was attacked by a man but not sexually assaulted. This man had attacked other women too. Rowdy and his cousins, Dawg and Natches, are going to get this man. Will they before anyone else gets hurt?

I liked this story. I did figure out who the bad guy was though before it was revealed in the story.

From the author:
Too weak to resist young Kelly Benton’s attempts at seduction, Rowdy Mackay left home eight years ago. Duty as a U.S. Marine put a safe distance between temptation and the nubile Kentucky vixen. Now he’s back home and ready to engage in the kind of erotic games that have earned him and his two cousins a Nauti-boy reputation in three counties.

Once it was Kelly’s dream too-to feel the heat of the boy she desired. But an attack from a stalker still on the prowl has left Kelly terrified of a man’s touch. Now as fear and desire converge, Rowdy fights to save her from the deadly threats of a stranger, to rid her of her demons, and to satisfy a hunger more powerful than either can imagine.

How had he known she would be waiting on him, here of all places. Rowdy Mackay steered the Harley into its parking spot before lifting his glasses from his face and facing the demon sprite as she moved from the wood bench to stand on the sidewalk in front of him.

She was wearing one of those short, snug little t-shirts she liked so much. At least it wasn’t one of his bigger shirts. He had lost two more on this trip home and he knew who to blame. She had been stealing his shirts since she was sixteen and her mother married his father, bringing his favorite bit of trouble right into his home.

And he had been running from her ever since. Seven years of running. He had one year left to decide what the hell he was going to do.

He turned and tucked the sunglasses into the side of his Marine issue duffel bag strapped on the back of the Harley before he bent his leg on the gas tank and watched her silently. Dawg and Natches were supposed to be here soon. Dawg was driving Natches over so he could take the Harley back, but they weren’t here yet. There was no one to distract him from the hunger driving him crazy.

She was twenty-three and her kisses were soft summer rain. They slid over a man’s senses and drew in him, inviting him to get all wet and wild with her, inviting him to give her his worst. And in Rowdy’s case, his worst might be a hell of a lot more than she could handle.

She stepped from the sidewalk. The low-rise of her jeans didn’t even come close to the tempting shadow of her navel. She made him sweat in the middle of damned winter. But it wasn’t winter now, it was summer. A hot, Kentucky summer evening and he was leaving again.

And this time, he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he wouldn’t be able to walk away again. This was his last year away from home, he figured. Each year, without even touching her, without taking her or tasting her kiss, she made him feel things he didn’t expect.

His chest tightened at that knowledge. At the effort it was going to take to walk away from her again.

“You left without saying goodbye.” She stopped beside the Harley, her dove gray eyes staring back at him with a shadow of hurt. “I didn’t even get to see you this time.”

No, she hadn’t. He had stayed as far away from his dad’s home as possible, spending the six weeks he was back on the boat he kept at the marina.

The Mane Attraction by Shelly Laurenston

Pride #3

I had a hard time getting through this one. Maybe it's because it is the third book in the series and I did not already know these characters. I did not really understand the connection between Sissy and Mitch. I felt like the story was slow too. Why is Sissy's mother such a b*tch to her?

Sissy and Mitch are best friends. He gets shot in the neck and she takes him to her hometown in Tennessee to protect him and let him heal. He is a cop and is testifying in a trial. While in Smithtown, they start a sexual relationship, but Mitch gets attached.  What will happen after the trial?

From the author:
Weddings have the strangest effect on people. How else to explain the fact that Sissy Mae Smith woke up in Mitch Shaw’s bed the morning after her brother Bobby Ray tied the knot? Or that gunmen are trying to kill Mitch, and Sissy Mae now has to escort a bleeding, stubborn, yet still incredibly sexy lion shifter to her Tennessee Pack’s turf to keep him safe? It doesn’t help that Mitch’s appraising gaze makes her feel like the most desirable creature on earth, or that the ultimate stray cat is suddenly acting all kinds of possessive…
Mitch is an undercover cop who’s about to testify against some dangerous ex-associates. Even more worrisome, he’s harboring hot, X-rated fantasies about the fast-talking little canine-and he has to deal with every male in Sissy Mae’s Pack sniffing around her in a way that makes his hackles rise.. Mitch has his pride, and he intends to show Sissy Mae that when a lion sets out to make you his mate, the only thing to do is purr, roll over, and enjoy one hell of a ride…

Mitch opened the family room door and walked in. As soon as he stepped inside, the smell of food cooking hit him right between the eyes. He dropped the football equipment the team had given him and headed straight toward the kitchen. Sissy sat on the counter, her legs banging the cabinet doors underneath, a racing magazine open on her lap.
She looked up and smiled. “Hey. Dinner should be ready in another — oh!”
Mitch picked her up and started to carry her toward the stairs. Quickly decided that was too far and dropped her on the kitchen table.
“Mitchell — ”
He covered her mouth with his hand. “Not a time to talk. Just get those shorts and panties off. Now.”
“Yeah, but — ”
“Again with the talking?”
“Just turn the heat off on the stew.”
He turned and quickly shut off the flame heating their dinner. When he turned back around she was just getting her shorts unsnapped.
“Too. Slow.” He grabbed hold of the shorts and yanked them down her legs before reaching for her panties and ripping those off completely. He had his own sweats halfway past his ass when Sissy shook her head. “What now?”
“Condoms. And don’t snap at me.”
He turned and reached into the far cabinet, moving a few things around and finally pulling out a big box of condoms. When he turned back, Sissy looked absolutely outraged. “Are you high? Putting those up there? What if my parents came home and we — ”
“They were already there.”

Holding Strong by Lori Foster

Ultimate #2
Denver Lewis has been watching Cherry Peyton for quite some time. Cherry wants him and finally gets him.  Armie, Denver's friend, overhears some creepy looking men asking about Cherry and tells Denver. It turns out that they are from Cherry's past and they want something from her. Cherry tries to figure a way out by herself because she has always been alone.  She doesn't understand that she isn't alone anymore. She has Denver, even though they are a new couple, and their friends. Can Cherry trust in Denver to protect her?

I enjoyed this story. Denver is a huge man with a matching heart. Cherry is adorable. I love Armie!  I cannot wait for his and Rissy's story.

From the author:
Heavyweight fighter Denver Lewis plays real nice, but he doesn’t share. That’s why he’s been avoiding top-notch flirt Cherry Peyton. But a man can only resist those lush curves for so long. Their encounter surpasses all his fantasies, bringing out protective urges that Cherry’s about to need more than she knows…
Denver’s combination of pure muscle and unexpected tenderness has been driving Cherry wild. Yet no sooner does she get what she’s been craving than old troubles show up on her doorstep. And this time, Cherry can’t hide behind a carefree façade. Because the man by her side is one who’ll fight like hell to keep her safe…if only she’ll trust him enough to let him…

Anticipation growing sharper, Denver led her through the throng, steering her around small clusters and heavier crowds. The loud, pulsing music and clamor of laughter and conversation made it difficult to talk until they finally reached the entrance.
As he drew her out the doors and into the quieter night, Cherry tipped up her face and drank in the humid evening air. “Ohhh, this is so much better.”
A storm gathered in the distance, sending brief flashes of lightning across the horizon. He could smell the rain in the air, and he felt his own mounting tension.
While a frisky breeze played with her hair, Cherry ducked against him comfortably, as if they’d been cozy forever.
She couldn’t know how it affected him, feeling her sweet body so close, inhaling the hot scent of her skin mixed with the dampness of the night.
He couldn’t help but touch her cheek, smoothing back her hair. She turned into his hand, smiling.
Would she look like that, all relaxed and satisfied, after she came?
Her lashes lifted and she looked at him. “It feels good, doesn’t it?”
Had she read his mind? He opened his hand, stroked his fingers through her silky hair. “What?”
“The quiet and the fresh air.”

She felt good. But then he was so primed that everything she said and did felt like a come-on.
Thick clouds tumbled over the stars and moon, but street lamps illuminated the area. Sluggish traffic went by. People milled in and out of the bar and the hotel across the street.
Apparently in less of a hurry than him to reach her room, Cherry turned toward him to chat. “Yvette left with Cannon right after the fight ended.”
Looping his arms around her waist, Denver nodded. “I talked with him.” Cannon always came as Armie’s corner man if his own fight schedule with the SBC didn’t have him out of town. It was a treat for all the other fighters at the event, and a thrill for the locals. “He’s as sappy as Gage.”
Her smile twitched. “Guess it helps that the ladies really enjoy the fights.”
Shadows played over her, emphasizing the swells of her breasts. With every move she made, that soft flesh drew his eye. He couldn’t wait to get his hands on her.
And his mouth.
