Know Italian?

Yesterday my sister-in-law from Italy called. The King was at work so I could not give him the phone. I have to say that I did not do too bad. I understood almost everything she said. But I could not remember how to say I don't understand. I know it will get better when we get to Italy and I am around it all the time.
I have done Rosetta Stone. That helped but it does not teach you to speak conversational Italian. I have books and cds. I have been using a new site on the internet called Byki (just found it last week). I can read some Italian.

Crocheted Market Totes

Last night I had the urge to make something. It is getting too hot to knit. Litle P wanted to know why I haven't finshed her sweater. Like she is going to wear it now!

I remembered that I had seen a pattern in a mag that I wanted to make.

SO I found the magazine and the yarn. I haven't packed all my yarn yet, just in case.

And I got started.

This is what I have so far. I finished one circle and have started on another. You sew the 2 circles together, leaving a space to stuff the netting inside for when the bag is not in use.

I am using a yarn made from hemp, so it should be durable. I can stuff this into my luggage and have a bag to use when shopping whilst waiting for our shipment to arrive (once we have moved).

For a better look at this pattern check out this link ...http://www.knitsimplemag.com/node/163#7 it is about halfway down the page.

Tomorrow I will post another pic of my progress!

Children as Parents

I was just reading this post -

over at Suburb Sanity. I wonder how old the grandparents are? Maybe they are only 30 or so!

It makes you wonder just what is going on. Look at Bristol Palin. She got herself in trouble and now she's a cover girl. She did not have much of an example from her mother who at 44 got accidentally pregnant.

Read this post, it expresses some of my thoughts!
You look at one of the top rated TV shows for tween girls - "The Secret Life of An American Teenager" on the ABC Family channel. A 15 year old girl gets pregnant after having sex for the 1st time. This channel used to have wholesome entertainment but that got lost somewhere!
What happened to parenting? You should not be your child's friend. I think that is what happened with some people. They can't say no to their children and let them run wild. Some people stop parenting around age 10 or 11 figuring that the job is done, but kids need parenting much, much longer than that.
What do you think??

What's Cooking Wednesday

Make your own frozen treats - you will save some $$$ and you can get one flavor. Plus you can make them whatever size you want!

POPSICLE:
1 (3 oz.) pkg. Jello, any flavor

1 pkg. Kool-Aid, any flavor

1 c. sugar

2 c. hot water

2 c. cold water

FUDGESICLE:
1 (3 oz.) pkg. chocolate instant pudding

1/2 c. sugar

1/2 c. cream

2 c. milk
Mix and pour into molds. Freeze.

For sugar-free Popsicles just use sugar-free ingredients and omit sugar.

What if you used the oreo pudding mix, or cheesecake or white chocolate! Yummy!

Angels and Demons

The movie opens today. Are you going to see it? I will eventually. I had never heard of Dan Brown before the controversy surrounding the book "The Da Vinci Code". Of course, I had to read it. I liked it. It was not the first time I had heard about the Mary Magdalene and Jesus thing. It does not change my faith. Did it change yours? I don't understand why it is a big deal. It doesn't change the message - Love one another as you love God and yourself and live a righteous life. Does it?
Then I read the rest of Dan Brown's work, including "Angels and Demons" which was written before "The Da Vinci Code". It was good. Full of mystery and intrigue. I like that in a book.
But it was not the book that I liked best. "Deception Point" was my favorite. Probably won't see it in the movies!

Now everybody is getting so upset once again about a piece of FICTION>>> I read that the script is different than the book. Not surprising!
It seems like people are always getting worked up over little things that don't really matter in everyday life. Person#1 says something in public that Person #2 doesn't like. It gets splashed all over the news and becomes a big thing. Person #1 has to apologize and that gets talked about for eons until Person #3 comes along and does something like not wear underwear and then the cycle begins again.

I hope everyone had a great day. Today we went to a restaurant with my mom and then we all went to see the new Star Trek movie. It was great. If you are a fan, you will love it. If you aren't, you'll love it anyway!

The cast was fab and very reminiscent of the original cast.

Leonard Nimoy was the only "old" cast member in this movie.

In this photo you can see the old cast and the new cast.

I highly recommend this movie.
