Funerals in our Town

Funerals are a little but different here than in the States. I haven't been to
one but we saw this procession last Wednesday. Apparently they walk around
the town following the casket. Then proceed to the church.

There was a band also in the procession,

playing music as they walked. It was really nice.

When a person dies here, notices are put up to inform people.

Almost everyone I have read is for an elderly person, mostly in their 80's and 90's.

i like it when they put up notices or the purple ribbon on the doors. i think it's a nice way to show some respect.

We saw this once when we were in Southern Italy--Pasteum. We were sitting outside a cafe when all of a sudden all the shop owners pulled down their metal doors. We were startled. Then the procession came with an old flower and ribbon bedecked cart carrying the casket, followed by what seemed to be the whole town. Once they passed, all the doors went up again and life resumed. It was very interesting and a culture learning moment.

When I was a kid growing up in the southern US. Cars used to stop on the roads when a funeral procession went by.
Now people won't even pull over for ambulances!
