Street Signs

The street signs in our town are different than in Pennsylvania where we used to live. In this photo you can see the one and the newer signs. Some of the names are spray painted on the sides of buildings. Interestingly, most of the streets are named for someone.

Umberto I or Humbert I (Italian: Umberto Ranieri Carlo Emanuele Giovanni Maria Ferdinando Eugenio di Savoia, English: Humbert Ranier Charles Emmanuel John Mary Ferdinand Eugene of Savoy; 14 March 1844 – 29 July 1900), nicknamed the Good (in Italian il Buono), was the King of Italy from 9 January 1878 until his death. He was deeply loathed in far-left circles, especially among anarchists, because of his conservatism and support of the Bava-Beccaris massacre in Milan. He was killed by anarchist Gaetano Bresci two years after the incident. (From wikipedia.com)

Ruggeru Sèttimu (Italian: Ruggiero Settimo; May 19, 1778 — May 12, 1863) was an Italian politician, diplomat, and patriotic activist of Sicily. The name means "Roger the Seventh", but though he was a nobleman as the Prince of Castelnuovo, it is not clear whether he was a descendant of Roger, the Great Count of Sicily. (From Wikipedia.com)

Our street is called Via Salvatore Quasimodo who was an Italian poet. Cool, huh!
